[Solved] OO 4.1.0 on Mac OS X 10.6.8

Issues installing under the Mac OSX - X11 - Aqua

[Solved] OO 4.1.0 on Mac OS X ten.half dozen.8

After receiving notification of the availability of Open Office 4.one.0, in which information technology was stated that the update was suitable for Mac Bone X 10.iii onwards, I downloaded the relevant file … noting that it stated:
"Download Apache OpenOffice iv.1.0
Click hither to download (hosted by Sourceforge.net) for:
Mac Bone X (10.6 or older) and English language (British) | ~159 MByte | Released: 2014-Apr-29".

Nonetheless when I attempted to run the instal, a bulletin was displayed indicating that this could not continue equally my version of Mac OS X was not suitable - I run OS X 10.half dozen.8.

I hope that the erroneous bulletin will by now have been corrected.

OO 4.1 does _not_ work on Mac 10.half dozen.8. You need to return to 4.0.one; please download it again from this link:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/openoff ... g/download

(wait 5 seconds for the download to first subsequently you click the link)

Do does this mean that Snow Leopard is no longer supported? Is 4.0.one the end of the line?

It seems rather odd that a Java application should be and so dependent on operating system version.

In whatever case, if 4.0.1 is the finish of the line, it would be nice if I didn't meet letters telling me to upgrade.

Unless y'all have a rather old Mac, yous can first upgrade to Mavericks (ten.9); it's free from Apple. And then you lot can install AOO releases beyond iv.1.0. If you lot can't/don't upgrade Bone Ten, and then y'all're probably stuck until yous buy new hardware. Check Mac resources on the web if yous need help determining if y'all tin can upgrade, or if you need help installing Mavericks.

If this answered your question please go to your first post use the Edit push button and add [Solved] to the start of the championship. Y'all can select the dark-green checkmark icon at the same fourth dimension.

From the release notes at

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/dis ... ease+Notes

"Annotation: Mac users should exist aware that with this release Apache OpenOffice is a 64-bit application and requires Mac OSX x.7 or higher up."

It seems rather odd that a Java awarding should be so dependent on operating system version.

Apache OpenOffice is non a Java application.

In any example, if 4.0.1 is the terminate of the line, it would be overnice if I didn't see letters telling me to upgrade.

Both the release notes (run into to a higher place) and the system requirements,

, country that Mac Os X ten.7 (Lion) or higher is required.

Although my hardware can run Lion, King of beasts is a pig (compared to Snowfall Leopard) and fifty-fifty if it wasn't I *hate* the interface changes. Much of that was fixed in Mount Panthera leo, but my hardware can't run that.

I've been planning to upgrade for a while at present, merely honestly, with an SSD and maxed out RAM my MacBook Pro (2,1) is yet more than adequate. I am also i of the few people who seems to similar a 17" laptop any more than, and I am non terribly interested in shelling out for a new car until I absolutely accept to if information technology means downgrading to a fifteen" screen.

I've got to say that I'm really sad that just when Open Role starts to become truly usable I tin can't run the latest version any more.

So just proceed using the version of Apace OpenOffice that you have. It is much more recent than your computer and operating system. I am happy using an older version on my second computer, a MacBook running Snow Leopard.

I use Snow Leopard considering I *prefer* it, not because I similar running sometime software. Snow Leopard is light and fast, faster than anything that came before information technology and faster than anything that has come since. I really don't like what happened with the iOS-ification of Os/X and I have nonetheless to find a single characteristic in newer versions that makes me want to upgrade.

Open Role, on the other hand, has seen substantial improvements in every release and It has only been rather recently that I've considered information technology truly usable (although I have been using it since it was called Star Office...)

If this is actually the end, *PLEASE* notice a way to finish the bloody annoying pop-ups that continue telling me to upgrade.

I wonder about this.
I have OS x.6.8 on my MacBook Pro from 2009 and I always thought this is a 64 Bit machine, I withal call back it.
So I don't understand why OO 4.1 doesn't run on it, both 64 Flake.
Why?

Didn't you sympathise my answer?
AOO four.1 requires OS 10 ver.x.7 or newer. The operating system requirement is independent from it beingness a 64 bit app. Many current applications for Macs require OS X ver.7 or newer.

No, I didn't understand your respond because I read in the General Remarks of the AOO four.1 Release notes this sentence:

Note: Mac users should be aware that with this release Apache OpenOffice is a 64-bit awarding and requires Mac OSX 10.7 or above.

I read this like this: As information technology is a 64-bit awarding information technology requires Mac OS 10.7. This is the thing I don't understand. Bone ten.6 is 64-fleck likewise, I don't empathise the logic in this remark.

If you have knowledge of Mac OSes, the OpenOffice software source code is bachelor and yous might patch it to accommodate your operating arrangement. I'thousand sure at that place will exist OpenOffice programmer assistance bachelor should y'all decide to exercise this.
